Dr. John Sanville

Dr. Sanville is a local, state, and national leader in education whose expertise includes team building, crisis management, curriculum development, interpersonal relationships, and effective communication. As Superintendent of Unionville-Chadds Ford School District (UCFSD), he has navigated complex challenges impacting students, staff, and families. During the pandemic, he led UCFS to stand out as one of the few districts with staff fully trained, classes operational within days, AP testing on schedule, and an in-person graduation ceremony––all in compliance with health regulations. He shared the detailed plans that UCFSD developed across Pennsylvania and beyond, benefiting countless other districts.

With more than 30 years in public education – beginning as a middle school history teacher and soccer coach in Virginia – Dr. Sanville has demonstrated the skills and insight needed to be a successful leader. As past president of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA) and current member of PASA’s Board of Governors, he works with colleagues from around the Commonwealth and also represents Pennsylvania on the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) Governing Board. He is often sought to share experiences and provide guidance at a local, state, and national events.

In his time at UCFSD, Dr. Sanville has encouraged and fostered a work environment that is positive and generates collaboration and creativity at the highest levels. By making leadership training available to all employees, he has seen the growth in many innovative solutions to situations and a marked improvement in professional relationships. He understands that exceptional leadership begins with how you approach life. Known for his positive outlook, he responds to inquiries about his day with his signature phrase: “Never better.”

John earned his B.A. from The George Washington University, his M.A. in Counseling from Virginia Tech, and his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Virginia. Dr. Sanville resides in West Chester, Pennsylvania and enjoys playing soccer, going to Eagles games, traveling, and spending time with his wife Debbie and their dogs.
